Disease management in organic brassica transplants

News image

01 Jun 2009

A new project on disease management in organic brassica seed and transplants is being funded by the HDC. The two-year project will aim to evaluate a range of organically acceptable brassica seed and transplant treatments for their efficacy and cost effectiveness in controlling common soil and seed-borne diseases. The treatments tested will include microbial inoculants and suppressive composts that are currently available for use in the EU. It is anticipated that the work will benefit not only organic but also conventional plant raisers and growers by exploring alternative options for disease management that reduce disease levels and improve the quality of brassica transplants. The project number is FV 352 and will be a collaboration between Plant Health Solutions, Warwick-HRI and Garden Organic (HDRA)

A native of Asia and introduced as a biological control agent, it is the most invasive ladybird on earth. Full story... Link to Harlequin Ladybird Survey
